Use and Dosage of the Medicine
It is a combination of two different medicine which are intended for pain relief. They are combined together but each of it has a different mechanism of function. It is used for treatment of back pain, cough, fever, and other types of severe pain.
It is found by experts that acetaminophen function by inhibiting the function of the cyclooxygenase enzyme. This enzyme is present in the brain. The other medicine i.e. hydrocodone is first metabolized in the body into hydromorphone. The hydromorphone forms the active component that binds to opioid receptors and blocks signals for pain.
- The combination of both this medicine is more effective as compared to individual medication and helps to treat severe to moderate pain.
- It is mostly only recommended for adults and not children due to its addictive nature. It should be prescribed to children when there is no other option.
- The dose generally is prescribed one tablet in empty stomach and the number of tablets depends on condition and age.
Precaution and Side Effect of Tablet
It is not safe for pregnant woman due to the adverse effect on the child. It can cause some side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, impaired attention, nausea, stomach upset, constipation, vomiting, breathing shortness, low blood pressure etc.
The overdose by the medicine is dangerous as it can cause liver damage or in extreme condition even death. Abrupt stopping of the medicine can cause withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, runny nose, muscle ache, irritability, pupil dilation, watery eyes etc.
